Growing up in Western Massachusetts, Jay-Paul Thibault was rooted in a family of successful entrepreneurs, salespeople, and business owners.
Gerard Thibault (Jay-Paul's grandfather) moved to America in the late '20s and founded a successful painting company with his brother, Joseph Thibault. He and his brother kept a 27-man crew employed through the Great Depression. Gerard's sons all went on to become very successful businessmen and entrepreneurs:
Paul Thibault, Jay-Paul Thibault's father, took over the painting company in the '60s.
Tom Thibault, Jay-Paul's uncle, designed some of the initial computer banking systems for Wells Fargo and designed central computer systems for larger corporations. He sold his business in 2005 and has since retired.
David Thibault, another uncle, joined Earth Sat in 1971. He was a NASA principal investigator on several joint projects with state environmental agencies that examined the utility of Landsat data for inventory and monitoring. He also directed aerial remote sensing programs that included wetlands mapping and abandoned mined lands inventories for New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New York. He also helped run several presidential and gubernatorial campaigns between all of this.
Anne Thibault, Jay-Paul's aunt, founded a telephone bank used for political polling, for races at all levels, and a variety of organizations such as The Wildlife Federation and Planned Parenthood.
His uncle, Bill Hamilton (founded a polling firm in 1964 that, still operating over 52 years later, is credited with being one of the oldest political consulting firms in the country.
Many of Jay-Paul's paternal cousins and extended family have found other businesses primarily associated with computers and politics.
On his mom's side, Jay-Paul's great-grandfather was an inventor and entrepreneur who designed the modern layout for the town of Longmeadow, MA, including the water system and street plan; patented a new type of weaving machine that allowed multiple spindles of string to be used simultaneously radically increasing the output of cloth by allowing more spindles to be used simultaneously.
His grandfather was a successful politician in Massachusetts for more than 25 years, was the primary salesman for Tampax on the east coast, later went on to own and run a pre-NFL football team, owned a fishing fleet in Maine finally retired to the west coast of Florida to play golf and enjoy life.
Jay-Paul Thibault's grandmother, Mildred Cheney, was a renowned painter, photographer, and artist.
Sally, his mother, is known for her calligraphy, handmade books, and photography.
Jay-Paul's sister, Alison, has her jewelry store on Vinalhaven, ME (an island off the coast near Camden/Rockport), designing and producing her dichroic jewelry.
His other sister, Renee, owns and operates a natural healing center in Maryland that treats clients with massage therapy and acupuncture and advises them on special diets.
Jay-Paul Thibault continued this trend of successful businesses, starting his first business in 1991 at the age of 22 focused on B2B sales of filtration units while attending the University of Maine.
After graduation, he worked as a Lotus Software consultant for a brief time. He then co-founded Web Marketing Ventures (WMV), one of the most successful B2B and B2C culinary websites in the United States. (See "Business" for more details)
